Bola Group has launched Chatbet, a WhatsApp-based sports betting platform, in Zambia. The service allows users to place wagers via text or voice notes without downloading a dedicated application.

The platform addresses high data costs in the region by operating entirely within the messaging app. Powered by ChatLayer Media Technologies, the system eliminates the need for web browsers or data-heavy interfaces. Users can view odds and confirm bets using standard messages or audio recordings.
The service covers all major sports and is tailored specifically for the African market.
CEO Hilton Hasson stated that the development took six months and represents a new model for the continent. "WhatsApp is already in everyone’s pocket, data costs make traditional platforms a barrier and sports betting in this market is still massively underserved digitally, and Chatbet solves all three," Hasson said. The company plans to expand the service to Zimbabwe and Malawi following the Zambian launch.
The release coincides with the start of the FIFA 2026 World Cup. Hasson noted that the timing was intentional to capture interest during the major sporting event. "This is the biggest sporting event on the planet and we are the only operator on this continent where a fan can place a bet via a voice note," he added.
