Brazil Collects R$4.6 Billion in Betting Taxes in First Four Months of 2026

The Brazilian Federal Revenue Service collected R$4.586 billion in betting taxes between January and April 2026. The regulated market recorded nearly double the revenue of the same period in 2025 while operating with 87 licensed providers.

Fiscal Growth and Market Distribution

Tax receipts reached $886.2 million across the four-month window. Licensed operators increased from 49 at the beginning of 2025 to 87 by April. Despite the growth, estimates indicate that between 41% and 51% of betting activity remains outside the licensed environment. Monthly revenue showed fluctuations throughout the period, limiting full market channelisation.

Regulatory Framework and Upcoming Tournament

Authorities have implemented a regulatory structure that includes the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets, integration with the Sigap management system, and a dedicated betting database maintained by the Federal Police. The 2026 World Cup will serve as a major operational test, with projections estimating R$19 billion in betting activity. Offshore platforms that do not meet local compliance and consumer protection standards continue to compete for market share.
