Colorado Sports Betting Handle Drops 5.3% in May

According to the Colorado Division of Gaming monthly report, the state's May sports betting handle declined 5.3% year-over-year to $469.1 million. The agency also confirmed that new legislative restrictions will begin enforcement on August 12.

May Market Performance

Gross gaming revenue for the month reached $44.7 million, marking a 9% decrease compared to the same period last year. Tax collections increased 7.7% to $3.86 million. Parlay wagers accounted for the largest segment at $190 million, while basketball and baseball generated $91.7 million and $61.7 million respectively. Table tennis contributed $34 million to the monthly total.

Upcoming Regulatory Changes

Governor Jared Polis signed Senate Bill 26-131 into law, establishing updated compliance requirements for licensed operators. The legislation caps player deposits at six transactions per 24-hour window and removes credit cards as an approved funding method. Operators must also cease all promotional communications aimed at individuals under 21 and disable automated push notifications or text messages designed to trigger additional wagers or deposits.
